Brynwood Golf Club Receives Approval for Golf Course Redevelopment 03.07.2016

On March 7, 2016, the Town of North Castle Planning Board granted approvals for the Golf Course Redevelopment Phase of the Brynwood Golf Club and Residences project. These approvals, for the redevelopment of the golf course portion of the site only, include Site Plan, Wetland Permit, Steep Slope Permit and Tree Removal Permits. The golf course improvements represent phase one of the redevelopment of the property that will ultimately include upgraded golf club facilities and a new golf course residential community.

The proposed golf course renovations include rebuilding tees, greens and bunkers to improve playability and drainage, enhancing existing ponds and relocating three golf holes to improve the golf course experience. The Club is in the process of becoming a Certified Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary, utilizing improved, state-of-the-art environmental management practices. Application for approvals of the Residential Site Plan will follow, while the golf course improvements are underway.

These approvals follow a multi-year environmental review process in the Town, which culminated in the June 2015 with adoption of a SEQR Findings Statement and the rezoning of the 156-acre site to the new Golf Course Community Floating Overlay District (GCCFOD) by the North Castle Town Board. The primary purpose of the project is to maintain the existing golf course as open space, improve the existing Club facilities, and meet demand for an adult-oriented, state-of-the-art residential community with golf club amenities; which is a unique type of golf course living not currently existing in Westchester County. JMC has been a part of the multi-disciplinary team working on implementing this vision for the Brynwood project since the current owners purchased the former Canyon Club property in 2009.
